How do leaders set direction, question assumptions, look at problems in new ways, and create and articulate a vision for the future?

Reflection Questions before taking survey to look back on where you are

  • Why is leadership important to teaching and learning success?
  • How does leadership set direction? Do you know the direction?  Are you inspired by the direction? Is the district living that direction and making progress toward its attainment?  How do you know?
  • Are leaders accessible, visible, and proactive about moving the school district to a higher level of performance?
  • Do leaders walk their talk and exemplify the core values of the organization?
  • Do leaders encourage collaboration and teamwork?
  • Do leaders help others grow in their career and in their performance through professional learning, coaching and other means of support?
  • Do leaders trust and respect staff members and encourage them to contribute their ideas in important decisions?

  • How do the leaders encourage student and family support for the vision?
  • How do leaders instill a continuous improvement mindset believing that all aspects of the system can grow and improve?
  • What are the vital things about leadership that we get right and need to celebrate?
  • What are the vital things about leadership that we do not get rights and need to focus our improvement attention?
