Process Improvement

Essential Question

Which key processes should be in everyone’s portfolio? (Doing the right things) Which processes out of our entire portfolio are most in need of improvement?

Reflection Questions before taking survey to look back on where you are

  • Why is process improvement important to teaching and learning success?
  • Are you clear about the process expectations for all students as they take responsibility for their learning?
  • Are you clear about the process expectations for all teachers as they take responsibility for their teaching? Give some examples.
  • Are you clear about the process expectations for all leaders as they take responsibility for leading? Give some examples.
  • Are key processes documented and accessible?
  • Are key processes supported through professional development, coaching and/or other supports? Give some examples.
  • Are key processes in alignment with best practice research? Are key processes validated, monitored, and updated
  • Are key processes implemented with confidence and fidelity?

Reflection Questions after taking survey to look where you want to be

  • Define process improvement.  Why is process improvement so important to the success of the district?  How do the previous 6 Dimensions support process improvement?
  • Has the district identified, documented, and provided professional development and support for its key teaching and learning processes? Provide some examples.
  • Do you feel the key teaching and learning processes are being implemented with fidelity in each. Classroom and every school across the district? Why or why not?  Do you agree that they should be implemented with fidelity?
  • Does the district or school address the level of staff awareness of “customers” and their expectations? Do you feel the district has “customers?”  Are they our students, our families, and our communities?
  • Is your district and school losing customers each year? How do you know?  Where are they going? Why? Do you have exit surveys?  If so, what do they tell you?
  • How does the district assess the effectiveness and efficiencies of its key teaching and learning processes against research and industry standards?
  • What are you proud of when you think about your use of process improvement or your district or school’s use of process improvement?
  • What needs attention as you think about your use of process improvement or your district or school’s use of process improvement?
